There are lots of people I appreciate in the world. But for this website in particular, I have the following people to thank:
Sarah Millsaps: Her website is beautiful, allowing honest, hard love to seep through the words she writes, pulling us closer to everything that is True. She inspired me to keep a website. Thank you.
Gwen Bell: Surface-level, I saw her simple yet powerful website that she coded, and I wanted to do the same. Much of my site drew inspiration from her, including her Embittered stylesheets and this appreciations page. More deeply, I’ve secretly followed Gwen online since I was in middle school, obsessed with the Zen is Stupid podcast, which she co-hosted years ago. I have been in awe of her courage to do what is true to her, and staying intentional to make it happen. She is who I look to in terms of using tech in a way that is healthy for my mind and body. I have never thanked her for what she has unknowingly given me. It is time to do so. Thank you.
Sarah Goldman: I spoke to her recently about how I felt weird making a website: it feels self-indulgent, pretentious, unnecessary. Plus, who would read it? She responded with love and grace, encouraging me to put this stuff online. Thank you.
My teachers, including my parents and sister, friends, extended family, mentors, and school teachers and college professors: It is because of you that I can look people in the eye and have a conversation. It is because of you that I am comfortable writing and can use it to process. It is because of you that I have the confidence to share my ideas with others. It is because of you that I enjoy learning and trying new things. It is because of you that I question with love. Thank you.
